Life is better out in the world

Social and community participation is about doing the things you enjoy, with the right support beside you. Whether it is visiting family and friends, joining a sports team, going to the movies, taking a class or volunteering, our friendly staff support you to take part in your community on your terms.

We deliberately match you with support staff who share or understand your interests. If your thing is football, fishing, art or gaming, we will pair you with someone you will actually enjoy spending time with. The best support does not feel like a service.

Building skills, not dependence

Every outing is also a chance to build confidence and independence: using public transport, handling money, ordering for yourself, meeting new people. We support you to do things, not watch us do them for you, and over time many participants need less support to do more.

How it is funded

Community participation is typically funded through your Core budget under Assistance with Social and Community Participation, and skill-building programs may sit under Capacity Building as Increased Social and Community Participation. We will help you understand what your plan allows.

Frequently asked questions

What activities can I use my NDIS funding for?
Your funding can support you to take part in community life: sports, hobbies, classes, social outings, volunteering and more. The activity itself may be an everyday cost, while your NDIS funding covers the support you need to participate, such as a support worker beside you.
Can I do activities in a group or one-to-one?
Both. Some participants prefer one-to-one support, others enjoy small group outings where costs are shared. We will talk through what suits your goals, your personality and your budget.
How do you choose my support worker?
We match on interests, personality and communication style, not just availability. A participant who loves sport gets a support worker who loves sport. If the match is not right, we change it.
Which part of my NDIS plan funds community participation?
Usually your Core budget, under Assistance with Social and Community Participation. Skill-building programs can also be funded under Capacity Building. We are happy to look at your plan with you and explain your options.
Do you support participants outside Brisbane?
Yes, we support community participation across Brisbane, Ipswich, Moreton Bay, Logan, the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast.
